About My Date Inc

Founded 2017 · Independent & Reader-Supported

My Date Inc was founded in Portland, Oregon, in 2017 by a small group of editors, psychologists, and writers who shared a frustration with the state of lifestyle media. Too much was superficial. Too little was grounded in evidence. Nothing seemed to take the complexity of everyday human relationships seriously.

We started publishing weekly long-form essays and practical guides with a simple editorial principle: treat readers as thoughtful adults navigating real, layered lives. Every article we commission is expected to be useful, honest, and well-sourced.

Today, My Date Inc reaches readers in more than forty countries. We remain independent — no venture capital, no affiliate schemes, no pay-to-play editorial. Our only business is the trust of our audience, and we protect it carefully.

We write about communication, self-understanding, friendship, community life, and the daily habits that help people feel more grounded. We believe good ideas, clearly expressed, genuinely change how people think and act.

Claudia Hartwell
Editor-in-Chief & Co-Founder

Claudia has spent over fifteen years as a features editor and cultural journalist. Before co-founding My Date Inc, she edited a longform section at a national Sunday magazine and contributed to several international publications on psychology and culture. She holds a postgraduate degree in Social Psychology from the University of Edinburgh and believes good editorial is fundamentally an act of service.

Our Editorial & Ethics Policy

How we source, verify, and correct our journalism — and why our independence is non-negotiable.

How Stories Are Sourced

Every article originates from a genuine editorial conversation, not a commercial brief. Writers are commissioned based on their expertise and perspective, not their reach or following. We do not accept sponsored editorial, native advertising, or paid placements. Story ideas are assessed purely on their relevance and value to readers.

Fact-Checking Process

All articles citing research, statistics, or expert claims pass through our Research Editor before publication. Primary sources are linked wherever possible. When a study or claim is contested, we present the dispute clearly rather than simplifying it away. Our standard is: if we cannot verify it, we do not publish it.

Corrections & Updates

We correct errors promptly, transparently, and without burying the correction. When a significant change is made to a published piece, a dated correction note is appended at the top of the article. Readers who spot errors are encouraged to write to editors@mydateinc.com and can expect a response within three working days.

Editorial Independence

No advertiser, investor, or third party has any influence over our editorial decisions. We maintain a strict separation between commercial activity and editorial content. Our editorial team has sole authority over what is published, how it is framed, and when it is retracted. This independence is written into our editorial charter.

Reader-First Values

We write for our readers, not for algorithms, share counts, or engagement metrics. Headlines describe what an article contains — they are not engineered for clicks. We do not publish content designed to distress, mislead, or exploit emotional vulnerability. Our measure of success is whether a piece genuinely helps someone think or feel more clearly.

Contributor Standards

Contributors are required to disclose any conflicts of interest relevant to their submission. We do not allow simultaneous or repeat publication of substantially similar content elsewhere without disclosure. All contributors agree to our contributor guidelines, which include requirements on sourcing, tone, accuracy, and the ethical treatment of personal stories shared by third parties.
